Manuel started getting interested in Human Sciences while at high school: he was fascinated by their complexity. Pushed by the ambition to contribute to the progress of technology, he chose to attend a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Biotechnologies. From the things that he loves the most about his current studies to his future goals: here’s the story of the 23-year old Master’s student in Biomedical Omics at Università degli Studi di Milano.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m Manuel Lessi, I’m 23 years old and I live in a little town close to Como. I’ve started getting interested in Human Sciences when I was in high school, I was fascinated by their complexity. In those years, I also realized that I wanted to challenge myself someway and contribute to the progress of technology. That’s why I’ve applied to the Bachelor’s degree in Medical Biotechnologies at Università degli Studi dell’Insubria. I’m now attending the Master’s degree in Biomedical Omics at La Statale in Milan.

Why have you chosen this path?

First of all, for the program: by reading the description of this degree, I immediately understood that it would have given me the chance to comprehensively explore the scientific and technological subjects I was interested in. Then, for the teaching method: you get to really understand what you are studying by applying the acquired skills. Lastly, for the international footprint: this Master, in fact, is run in collaboration with the European Institute of Oncology.

What do you love the most about your degree program?

The multidisciplinary approach. We don’t study only what is strictly related to Biology, but also other crucial subjects such as Data Management, Bioinformatics, Lab Management, Intellectual Property and Bioethics. In this way, we are provided with an excellent overall view of the scientific panorama and its many career paths.

What are your future goals?

I would love to do a work experience in Japan: I’m intrigued by its culture; plus, there are top institutions over there! One day, I would also like to launch a startup in the biotechnological or precision medicine fields.
