Some of us might picture Data Science and Coding as abstract disciplines that are totally unrelated to Economics, Politics and Social Sciences. However, this is not true. In fact, it’s actually their relevance when it comes to analysing and eventually solving real-life issues, that has pushed Greta to apply to the Master of Science in Data Science and Business Analytics at Bocconi. Let’s discover her story.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m Greta, I’m 23 years old and I’m attending the Master in Data Science and Business Analytics at Bocconi. I became passionate about Big Data and Computer Science during my Bachelor’s degree in International Politics and Government at Bocconi. In particular, I started getting interested in data and coding when I realized how these disciplines could help analyse, and eventually solve, economic, political and social issues. One of the things that has helped me out the most in these years, has been the broad knowledge and flexible mind-set developed at high-school thanks to my classical studies.
What’s your degree all about?
The Master provides a strong foundation in Statistics and Machine Learning. These core courses enable us to identify effective models and methods to predict and analyse large data sets. Moreover, it provides us with advanced Computer Science skills: these are crucial to build algorithms and program tools useful for the implementation of statistical methods to real-life problems. This course is designed for those who are interested in becoming data scientists or business analysists within data-driven companies and institutions, or working in academia and research centres.
Why have you chosen this path?
First of all, because the topics we study are extremely relevant today. Big Data, Machine Learning and Computer Science already play a key role in today’s scientific progress and will continue to do so in the future. Then, because it will provide me with the perfect set of skills to work in the tech industry; more specifically, I’m thinking about the big IT international players which have always intrigued me.
What do you love the most about your degree program?
The opportunity to apply the skills that I’ll acquire thanks to this Master to a broad range of fields, such as Economics, Marketing, Social Sciences, Artificial Intelligence and even Medicine.
What are your future goals?
Become a great professor and engage in research here in Italy. I’m thrilled by the opportunity to use my knowledge to serve my own country one day.
